Barnes Family | Copperas Cove Family Photographer

A few miles outside of Copperas Cove is a tiny little "town" called Topsey, Texas.  Most people know where I'm referring to when I say, "You know, where the exotic ranch is!"  Then I hear stories about the crazy monkey and intrusive ostiches that like to come into cars for food!  If you drive past all the exotic animals, you'll find our family farm.  We, all like 25 of us, all meet out there every Sunday for lunch and play.  This is the Barnes family, comprised of my cousin, her husband, and their two boys.  Yes, I take alot of pictures of my family.  They have supported me from the beginning and I love to do it for them!  They know I have crazy ideas all the time and have never discouraged me and I love them all for that.  Kristy let me do Mason's 2 year-old pictures last year (our kiddos are only week apart) and I am so lucky to get to do them again.  If you check out our Facebook page, you can see a progression picture form the session last year!

Wesley | Killeen Family Photographer

January has rolled around and it's time to catch up on blogging all the lovely sessions that never got blogged last year!  Not because we don't love them, just because we got insanely busy during the fall thanks to fabulous clients!  So with that, look for many posts coming during January that range all the way back from July!  We are working on being better bloggers :)

Meet Wesley.  He's grown so much since this session and I'm lucky enough to see his sweet face on occasion for play dates.  His mommy and I know each other from high school, taught Kindergarten together, and remain good friends!  This was Wesley 1-year-old session at his Nana's house.  One thing I love about this session is that it shows you really can be comfrotable in your own home for a session if driving to locations really isn't convenient or your thing.  A location is what you make of it and I love the images we got from Wesley!  Isn't he a cutie?  He is such a calm, easy going boy with a super sweet laugh.  He also joins my children in the "I love Crocs" club!  I'd like to send a special thank you to his Uncle Bo, as he is responsible for all the smiles received in these images!

Roozen Family | Killeen Family Photographer

We truly do get to meet some of the nicest families through photography!  I can't believe I haven't blogged about their session yet (at least I hope I haven't).  These lovely pictures belong to the Roozen family.  We met in Salado at the old schoolhouse and used the historical cabins next door.  We had a characteristic crazy hot Texas heat to deal with but the kids did wonderfully and staying in the shade helped!  

The Roozens are also one of our Military Appreciation Families that received free pictures as a thank you for military service.  This program has been very popular this year and we are already filling up for next year.  Next year will hold a few changes for the program.  We will only be accepting one family a month but will take families for a waiting list in case we have spots open.  Sessions will now be 30 minute minis with 10 images on a CD with print release.  Additional images will be available and will include a military discount.  Email normanphotography@ymail.com if you're interested in this program.

Project "A Day in Our Life" | Killeen Family Photographer

Project "A Day in Our Life"

I've been thinking about doing this project for a while and am really excited to try it!  The whole idea is to have pictures of your family going through a normal day in their lives for one whole day.  It's super simple.  You pick a date, keep a camera on you at all times (can be ANY type of camera), and snap pictures of everything all day long.  You take the baby out of her crib?  Click!  Dropping your children off a school and watching them walk away?  Click!  Someone doesn't want to ever eat the peas on her plate and looks at them in disgust?  Click!  Have a little one that insists on opening the mailbox?  Click!  Brushing teeth?  Click!  Brave enough to sneak a shot after they finally go to sleep?  Click!  

At the end of the day, you'll have an entire day documented.  Upload all your pictures and pick out the best ones that showcase your day.  It's that easy!  I plan on doing this at least one day a year until my children don't allow me to anymore.  


So how are we going to include everyone in this?  We want to share our days with you and would love to see yours!  At first, I had no intention of making this a contest of sorts but the prize will be really good!  Read on to find out what it is...


Project:
Capture your entire day in pictures!  Snap everything with any camera you have available.  We are simply wanting memories captured here.  The submission dates will be Dec 1-31.


How to enter:
Comment below!  Tell us why you're entering and what date you think you'll capture (we won't hold you to it, we know schedules are crazy).  


How to submit entries:
Pick up to 12 pictures to showcase the day you captured.  You're welcome to edit and combine them however you like but it's not required.  Email the pictures to me at Normanphotography@ymail.com.  I'll put them on a storyboard or slideshow on the blog along with the other participants.  Send me a description about your day between 300-350 words.  


How to win:
On January 2, I'll post a link to all the submissions.  Announce your link to your friends and family via email, Facebook, twitter, ect.  Have them like our Facebook page (we'll verify this) & then comment on your album! You must get 25 comments to be eligible to win.  


What you will win:
For the album with the most comments on the blog (past 25), we will take all your pictures and publish them in an 8x10 softcover album for you to have!  We'll edit them for you if you'd like and do a custom design including the description of your day.  These albums retail with us for $150.  We print them from Millers Lab and you can see what it'll be like here.   They are really nice!  


You didn't win?  It's ok.  You can mark "capture a day in the life of the kids" off your to do list for the year.  And if you'd like the pictures made into an album anyway, we'll give a great discount to all the participants!

Thomas' Homecoming | Ft. Hood Family Photographer

In honor of Veteran's Day, I'm going to skip through acouple sessions I need to blog and do Thomas' homecoming!  Rachel (his lovely fiance) contacted me this summer about photographing his homecoming in August.  I had never done one or been to one so I was super excited!  I don't have any family members that are military (I know this is strange living in a military town) so I've never been able to experience a homecoming.  I learned many things and am grateful to have had the experience.  I'll take you through one in case, like me, you've never been able to attend.  

The buses were late.  Not by much, just enough to prolong the anticipation.  The estimated arrival time had changed 3 different times, resulting in not all Thomas' family being able to stay to welcome him home.  He had a good sized group left though and they welcomed me into the "session" whole heartedly.  I walked around taking in the patriotic decor and signs made by love ones.  There was a DJ, soldiers on horses, kids running all over the place in their camo outfits, and no one was sad.  We got word the buses were on their way, saw them shortly after, saw many sets of boots pouring out of the door and lining up behind them, and finally were all able to yell, "Move that bus!".  Although you couldn't really pick out the soldiers individually, the tears and shouts were a huge sign of relief from families that had waiting so long to have them home.  A short ceremony later, and they literally "released" them.  Rachel tore out of the stands and I followed, having no idea who I was looking for, but he found us first.  I barley got a shot in before Thomas whisked her away.  Even I had tears and I'm not a crier.  There were lots of hugs, kisses, smiles, tears, and cell phone calls everywhere.  I even got in a hug with him.  After everything settled down, we got a few family shots and he had to go take care of "getting home" business.  One of my favorite shots is Rachel & Thomas leaving through the crowd.  Together.  See if you can find them :).

If you haven't had the opportunity to attend a homecoming, go.  Everyone should experience it once.  You may not have someone coming home but if you look behind the soldiers and their families, you'll see a group in the back that for one reason or another wasn't able to have someone there to greet them.  A thank you and a hug might go a long way.
