iheartfaces "Best Face Photo of 2011" Contest | Killeen Family Photographer

iheartfaces is celebrating their 3rd anniversary with a "Best Face Photo of 2011" contest and if you haven't check out this website, you're really missing out!  I've learned so many things from their online forums and Fix-it-Fridays where experts share how they edit and take you step-by-step so you can practice on the provided photo.  It's really a great site!  Ok, now on to the selected image...

We've had 100+ sessions in 2011.  The number of individuals this encompasses is much higher than that and to choose one picture from the entire year was so very hard!  I took out the photos I've already entered in the past contests and then tried to narrow down photos to ones that not only did I love but was also proud of taking.  I have many favorites from every single session but I kept coming back to this image of 3 brothers.

We were at Chalk Ridge Falls Park, one of our favorite spots to take clients, and doing their family session right before Christmas.  The boys belong to a family that now consists of 7 siblings and although they didn't start as a family together, they will end up brothers and sisters forever.  The one reason I choose this picture, other than loving the technical aspects of it, is that I really think you can see the love between 3 brothers.  I told them "show my some brotherly love" and instead of running or sticking their tongues out, the oldest grabbed his younger brothers and hugged them.  They all wobbled and laughed and eventually fell over!  I think it's all boy, all love, and just perfect.  So, it's my choice for my (Alisha's) best face photo of 2011!

Colt & Staton | Killeen Family Photographer

I [Sarah] just had to share a quick peek at probably my most favorite picture of my two boys. One of the best things about doing photography is capturing the memories of my own family. Alisha is our family photographer because anyone with kids knows it is nearly impossible to get great pictures of your OWN kids..they just don't act the same when mommy is behind the camera.

We were brave and loaded up all four of our kids one day and headed to Chalk Ridge Falls. Colt is almost three and he wanted absolutely nothing to do with taking the pictures. There were way too many leaves, rocks and sticks around for a boy to be wasting his time 'saying cheese'. Alisha managed to get some awesome pictures and this one in particular. Staton is my baby and he turned one back in November. This shoot was for his one year pictures, not that we need a good reason to whip out our cameras, we pretty much take them everywhere!

They grow up way too fast but I know that this picture will hold a special place in my heart forever.

Nowlain Family | Killeen Family Photographer

Meet the Nowlains. Alison is a second grade teacher with me and I just love working with her! I had so much fun spending time with their family. I have heard so much about Chloe and George and was so happy to finally get to meet them. Chloe is just too adorable and George was pretty funny too!

It was a beautiful day during our Thanksgiving break so we met up at one of my very favorite locations. You can just never go wrong with Chalk Ridge Falls. It is a wonderful place to take pictures or to go for a family hike. There is only one problem- the water. I can pretty much guarantee any toddler who sees the water is going to be even less interested in taking pictures than they were before. Regardless of how much Chloe wanted to go look at the water she did so well during our session. She even showed me her poses that she had been practicing. I think she may have a future in photography. She loved my camera and I even let her snap a few pictures of her mommy and daddy.

Two of the best things about this business are getting to meet new people and getting to capture memories for people who already mean so much to me. I am always honored to photograph my friends and the Nowlains were no exception. I am pretty sure this won’t be the last time you see this pretty little girl on our blog. She’ll be turning two in the Spring so be on the look out for those pictures to come!

Christy & Travis | Killeen Maternity Photographer

I feel like it is necessary for me to start with how these two met. Christy, Travis and I took our high school speech class together at Harker Heights High School many years ago. The three of us became quite good friends and we have many good memories from that class. We all remained friends but went our separate ways after high school. Christy stayed here in Central Texas to attend college and Travis joined the Army. About three years ago they reconnected when Travis returned to Fort Hood. They celebrated their two-year wedding anniversary last December and this past summer they announced that their family would be growing.

Travis is now stationed in Virginia but they came back to visit family over Thanksgiving. We knew this would be the last time they would get to be here before Lily would be joining them so, naturally, we had a photo shoot! They met me at Chalk Ridge Falls where it was an absolutely gorgeous day. I always love going there because it always beautiful.

These two are dear friends of mine and I was honored to be able to take their maternity pictures. Lily is one lucky little girl, as she will be joining an amazing family. She has so many people who are excited to meet her. Christy and I were pretty much inseparable back in the day and I am so excited that we will now get to be mommies together. I am hoping to be able to take a trip to Washington, DC to be able to take this precious girl’s newborn pictures.

Lily Jane is expected to be here in March!

What's New in 2012? | Killeen Family Photographer

Well hello 2012!  We're in a week deep now and I think we're ready to unveil the changes we'll be making to the business this year.  None are drastic.  Promise.  We aren't quadrupling our prices and session fees.  Sarah & I are grateful to be running a successful business in less than a year.   We've come a long way but I'll save that for our anniversary post.  We just want to say that without the support of our family, friends, and fans we wouldn't even be considering the changes we have made.  So, thank you and please know you are all greatly appreciated! Below you will see changes or additions we are making, with everything else staying the same!

2012 Services

Maternity - Newborn - Child - Family - Senior - Engagement - Bridal - Boudior - Wedding

Newborn sessions can be lifestyle or traditional.  Lifestyle newborn sessions show your family interacting at a location or in your home.  The nursery, family members, pets, and day-to-day baby tasks are all photographed.  Traditional newborn sessions show just your sweet new baby.  These are sleepy baby pictures displaying wrinkles, toes, fingers, lips, ect. all with sweet baby accessories.  A combination of both can be done by adding an additional $75 to a full session for an extra half hour.  Newborn sessions can be conducted indoors or outdoors.

We will be expanding our services to bridals, wedding, and boudoir in 2012.  Our 2012 wedding prices will be posted soon after this post and encompass other sessions you may need for the occasion.

Our boudoir sessions we will offer will be classy, sexy, and elegant.  No full nudity please.  Boudoir sessions can be either a full or half session.  They can be outdoors (we have private spaces available) or in the comfort of your home.  We do not have a studio at which we will conduct these sessions.

Bricen | Ft. Hood Newborn Photographer

The so called "ideal" age for shooting newborns is within the first 14 days of the precious little lives.  After this time the can get baby acne, colic, less sleepy, ect.  I say photograph babies of any age!  Why?  Because the are precious at an age and have something different to offer at every age!  Meet Bricen!  He was almost at the big 6-weeks-old mark here.  Sleeping was not an option as he was alert and awake the entire session, but why would I want to miss those big blue eyes?  And old enough to give me sweet baby boy smiles?  I love it!

Bricen did a great job and I really enjoyed meeting his sweet mom!  We want to welcome dad home (although alittle late) from a year in Iraq and hopes he's loving his time with the family.  We meet many families with loved ones deployed or about to deploy and I really think pictures mean just a little something extra to our military families!  Scroll to the bottom of the post for a link to FREE military pictures!

Do you or someone you know need family pictures done and they happen to be military?  We have a great program that gives one family a month free pictures!  Follow this link.

If you're reading this post in January and have been thinking about booking a session with us, think quickly to obtain the current rates!  We will be announcing out new pricing soon!  Thanks!
